I would be interested in knowing more about who Michael Wood is--what's his background, where was he educated, etc. I would also like to know what academic Biblical scholars (scholars who are not involved in promoting a certain theology or brand of Christianity) have to say about Wood's theory.

I looked at the preface of Wood's book and this quote jumped out at me:

"I had discovered a single explanation that accounts for every sentence in the passage. This was the first time in 2,000 years that this had been accomplished."

This is not something a serious scholar would write in a book. Aside from the bold claim, it is shameless self-promotion.

But of course even a self-promoting circus performer can get something right.

I would add that to me, personally, it wouldn't matter if Paul did condemn homosexuality. I think his writings, or those writings attributed to him, have great historical significance, and I'm interested in an academic sense, but I don't view Paul as having any more moral authority than anyone else. For me, I either agree with him or I don't.
