Govt. Seeks to Suspend DADT Lawsuit Appeal

In light of congressional repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” signed into law by President Barack Obama last week, the Justice Department is now seeking to suspend its appeal in the Log Cabin Republicans’ longstanding federal lawsuit against the policy.
...But Log Cabin Republicans executive director R. Clarke Cooper called the motion a stall tactic that would delay the government’s opening brief in the appeal due January 24. “The DOJ can hardly argue now that ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is constitutional,” Cooper told The Advocate. “The government is trying to avoid an embarrassing situation, and it ignores the fact that the military remains free to discharge personnel.”

Dan Woods, lead attorney for the Log Cabin Republicans, told The Advocate following the repeal bill signing ceremony last week that he would not agree to suspend the suit, given that “don’t ask, don’t tell” technically remains in effect. “Unless the government agrees not to discharge any more service members, our lawsuit is alive and kicking," Woods said.

Michael Medved--Love's Murderer

Michael Medved: Lesbian Sex Is Better, Because It Hurts To Take It In The Ass

"The politically correct attitude not only insists that heterosexual and homosexual relationships are equivalent, but also erases differences between relationships between two women and relationships between two men. If men and women are profoundly different-and both science and common sense tell us they are- then an all-female couple is even more different from an all-male couple than either homosexual bond differs from a heterosexual union.

"This distinction helps explain the oft-noted quirk in public attitudes that sees stronger opposition and denunciation, in the Old Testament and elsewhere, to a physical relationship between two males and intimacy between two females. A physical connection between a female couple, like a physical connection between man and woman, is based primarily on acts of affection. The most common sexual practice between two men involves an act of aggression ---inflicting more pain than pleasure for at least one of the parties. Even decisions by Congress, equating homosexual and heterosexual relationships, or erasing distinctions between the interaction between lesbians on the one hand and gay males on the other, cannot repeal politically incorrect realities." - Wingnut mental case and failed movie critic Michael Medved, writing from beneath a dead squirrel for the website of Seattle's KTTH radio.

Anal sex is not painful if done correctly.
Not all gay men are into anal sex.
Many straight people are into anal sex.

These are the facts, but of course, Medved isn't interested in facts.  He's interested in supporting his prejudice.

I suspect what this revolting subhuman troll can't stomach is the idea that two men can love one another, or have affection for one another, or treat one another with kindness, so he has to believe that when men make love, it's an act of aggression and violence.  He has to believe that it hurts.  Otherwise what possible reason would there be to stand in judgement of it?  Medved, and people like him, don't want to believe that they are against love and affection, but they are.  They are the murderers of love.

The German-American theologian and philosopher Paul Tillich said that we live in a state of estrangement from the Ground of Being, and he said that all forms of love are an attempt to overcome this estrangement. He defined love as the urge toward the reunion of the separated. When people come together in sexual congress, their bodies are literally physically joined, and this physical coupling, when combined with deeper emotional bonds, represents something that is multilayered, complex and mysterious. If there is a Holy Spirit at work in this world, then surely it is present when two people who care for one another give one another intense physical pleasure.

Make no mistake about it, men can and do love other men, and their physical unions are unfathomable and miraculous. And it is these miraculous unions that Medved is gunning for.  When misinformed and ignorant Medved uses broad and sweeping generalizations to cast aspersions on the private, intimate acts of gay men, he makes evident a destructive rage that exists in his cold and cruel soul. Like an assassin, he is taking aim at something alive and vibrant with the intention of killing it.

Medved likes to portray himself as a defender of traditional values. He claims to be trying to uphold what is decent and good. But in truth, he is an ogre, a monstrous, vengeful thing out to smash something that is beautiful and delightful to the millions who experience it. He is the antithesis of everything that is decent and good.  He is not a good man.  He is not a decent man.  He is a hater, and it is his denunciation and mischaracterization of sex between men that is aggressive.  He is the one out to inflict pain.

BBC Interviewed Gay Execution Supporter For Sake of "Balanced" Coverage

Exclusive- BBC: Gay execution supporter interview was required to ‘balance’ Elton John baby coverage

The BBC has mounted a defence of its decision to include an interview with a supporter of state sponsored execution of gay men in its coverage of the birth of Sir Elton John and David Furnish’s first child. A spokesman for the corporation told that the interview with a right-wing Christian fundamentalist allowed the BBC News at Six to reflect a genuine debate over the issue of surrogacy for gay couples.

FLORIDA: Cops Capture Suspect In Murders Of Wilton Manors Gay Couple

Florida police have captured a man driving the stolen vehicle of the Wilton Manors gay couple they suspect he murdered on Christmas weekend.

Peter Serge Avsenew, 26, was captured near Dundee, Fl., miles away from where police said he murdered Kevin Mark Powell and Stephen Adams on Sunday. The couple was found dead in their home by police. Avsenew, who is from Hollywood, was spotted by cops in Powell's black 2003 Saturn Vue.

Steve Weinstein On Gay Conformity

"[T]he majority of gay men and lesbians want nothing more than to raise families behind picket fences. There are other signs of increasing conformity in the gay world. Leather is seen by most younger men as more silly than hot. While they may exercise, younger men mostly don’t strive for Adonis physiques. It goes on. (Lesbians are way ahead of the curve on this. They’ve been mating and nesting for years.)

"Is this bad? Probably not. We’ve been fighting for acceptance. Now that we’re getting it, it’s up to us to do what we want with it. If younger gay men and lesbians want the same things as their straight counterparts, so be it. Have we lost something? Probably. Just as blacks lose their jive and soul when they become middle-class suburbanites, and Jews lose their Yiddishkeite, so we shed the camp, the bitchy humor, the diva worship, and the other facets that defined “gay” for so long. Most people, however, would consider it a fair tradeoff." - Steve Weinstein, writing for Edge On The Net in response to yesterday's JMG post about Jonah Goldberg's column on the "homosexual bourgeoisie."

There may be some truth to this, but basically, I find it to be overgeneralized and simplistic nonsense.

I kind of suspect that some of these people who are claiming gays are getting more "normal" or are about to get more "nomral" are really ashamed of those they think aren't "normal," and I think that they're really trying to pressure those they think aren't "normal" to become more "normal."

There have always been sururban gays.  Maybe the majority of of gays are and always have been suburban and rural.  Not all gay people were interested in the urban gay party scene even 20, 30, 40 years ago.  Maybe it only seems to some that gays are conforming more or becoming more bourgeois because these suburban and rural gays who have typically been fairly low profile are suddenly coming out and getting noticed.  And perhaps suburban dwellers are growing more tolerant than those who claim gays are or should become more conformist-minded realize.  After all, it seems that just as many straight people as gays go out to watch gay pride parades these days.

Headline Homophobia From The NY Post

It is just a cheap, dull, and unoriginal joke, that it's below the NY Post, which prides itself on having some of the cleverest headlines in the business. Oh, and it's doubly offensive to gay men, not only because it says that anyone who would want to enter into a relationship with another man is womanly, but also because it also pokes fun at the fact that we can't even get married if we want to. Then it reappropriates the word "proud," which gay men associate with Gay Pride and celebrating our liberation. Sorry, Post, but only gays get to make fun of Pride—and god knows we do.

BBC Calls On Antigay Extremist To Comment On Elton's Baby

Exclusive: Why did BBC call on Christian who supports execution of gays to comment on Sir Elton’s baby?

The BBC’s flagship News at Six on BBC One featured a right-wing fundamentalist Christian who had previously supported the execution of gay people to comment on the birth of a surrogate son to Sir Elton John and his civil partner David Furnish. Incredibly, the BBC did not seem to realise that the same preacher had faced bankruptcy after losing an attempted private prosecution for blasphemy against the director general of the BBC after the character of Jesus described himself as “a little bit gay” in ‘Jerry Springer: The Opera’.

Police chief apologizes for 'inappropriate [homophobic] comment'

Palm Springs Police Chief David Dominguez apologized Tuesday for “an inappropriate comment” he made during the 2009 Warm Sands neighborhood public gay sex sting.

The comment “did not display the utmost professional conduct expected from the Chief of Police and I sincerely apologize to the community at large,” Dominguez said in a statement.

It’s the first time Dominguez has admitted to making expletives during the lewd-conduct sting, which has sparked controversy across the valley over how it was carried out, the severe charges those arrested face, and the gay slurs police made during surveillance.

Iowa Gov. on Judicial Oustings: No Comment

Iowa governor-elect Terry Branstad said he's "got enough on [his] plate" to worry about and won't opine on three state legislators' efforts to impeach the four remaining Iowa supreme court justices who ruled last year in favor of marriage equality.

The incoming Republican governor has called on the state legislature to begin the process for a popular vote on a constitutional  amendment banning gay marriage, but declined comment as to whether the four justices should be removed through impeachment, Radio Iowa reports. “The governor doesn’t have a role in that,” Branstad said.

Joseph Farah: Purge Gays And Gay Allies From The Conservative Movement

"Purge is not a bad word. It simply means, according to the dictionary definition, 'to rid of whatever is impure or undesirable; cleanse; purify.' Conservatives need to purge from their movement anything that is not conservative. They shouldn't be attempting to broaden the definition of 'conservative.' They shouldn't be trying to build a bigger tent in the failed model of the Republican Party. They shouldn't be revising or lowering their standards. And they absolutely shouldn't be embracing enemies of the moral values that have defined the movement from the beginning.

"That's why it's time for true conservatives to get their act together as America faces its greatest challenges ever in the next two years. God cut Gideon's army up, slicing and dicing it until it represented only a tiny fraction of its numbers. God didn't want a big army to win victory. He wanted a miracle performed by a tiny army listening carefully and being in obedience to His commands. God purged thousands from Gideon's army. Conservatives need God's help, not GOProud's." - World Net Daily founder and three-time Just For Men gold medalist Joseph Farah.

Theocracy in America

Tennessee Billboard Campaign

NOM reports on their blog:
Kerry Duke, who also serves as dean at Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville, said the group purposely avoided a reference to "traditional marriage" in the billboard. "The will of God -- not tradition -- is the basis for saying that marriage should be between people of the opposite sex," Duke said. "Marriage between a man and a woman is not right because it is traditional. It is traditional because it is right." He added, "There are two basic ways of looking at marriage. Either humans invented marriage or God created it. If marriage is a human arrangement, then a society may alter it at will or do away with it altogether. But if marriage is a divine institution, then only God has the right to say what it is and who has the moral right to be in it."

NOM can spin all of the ad hoc reasons they want to justify denying us marriage equality, but NOM's true purpose is to impose conservative Christian beliefs onto us using the force of law.

NORTH CAROLINA: Openly Gay Man Elected To Head Council Of Churches

Only one other of the country's 33 similar church councils has elected an openly gay leader. Only one other of the country's 33 similar church councils has elected an openly gay leader. In California, a lesbian was elected president in the late 1990s. That makes Kimer's presidency of the N.C. Council - a coalition of 17 Christian denominations and eight individual churches that work on social issues - historic in the South. It also signals an acceptance among member denominations - Episcopalians, Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians and Roman Catholics - that even if they have theological differences about homosexuality, they are OK with a gay man at the helm. Or at least, they don't see it as an issue worth fighting. "A lot of our member denominations have internal battles about this," said the Rev. George Reed, the council's executive director. "But the governing board felt the fact that he is a gay man was not a disqualifying factor."
A sample reader comment on the above-linked Charlotte Observer story: "Having him over the board of church's is like building a mosck on ground zero. Its obsurd!!!! If he is a true Christian and in fact reads the word of god then he should know how the lord feels about homosexuals. Sir you are an abomination and when you burn your smoke and ashes will ascend up to his nostrils like insence. Read it for yourself!!!"

Attack on gay men

Anthony Verdugo--Founder of Florida's Christian Family Coalition

"It is a tragic day for our nation when legitimizing sodomy is preferred over the morale and combat-readiness of America's military. Sadly, those who voted to repeal DADT don’t know that although they won this battle, they have lost the war. The movement to support our Armed Forces is more powerful than ever and will continue to build strength until we win.

"This cowardly political betrayal of America's service men and women will not be forgotten on Election Day. U.S. Senator Bill Nelson's corrupt vote to repeal DADT attacked our troops and dishonored our nation's founders. Senator Nelson is now partying and laughing now with the extremist fringe group he pandered to, but the people of Florida will remind him of his unfitness to be their senator should he have the temerity to ask them for their vote in the 2012 elections." - Anthony Verdugo, founder of Florida's Christian Family Coalition.

The American Family Association: DADT Repeal Will Make Our Enemies Want To Kill Us Even More

The same people who are so thrilled about this change are also the same ones who preach to us all about how our nation and military should be less offensive to these nations who are our enemies. These same people apologize for American ideals and actions on a regular basis and bow to foreign leaders. There is a complete lack of analysis of this new military policy in this context. If we are to be more sensitive and understanding of these other nations, then our nation’s recent actions certainly are not going to accomplish that goal. It is bemoaned regularly how we need to be politically correct and accommodating to those of Islam, but the same people who believe such things are now offending greatly those whom they say they want to be more sensitive.

As stated on the website of the Center for Military Readiness, “Conspicuously missing from the list of 25 gay-friendly militaries are potential adversaries China, North Korea, and Iran. Their combined forces (3.8 million, not counting reserves) are more than two times greater than active-duty forces of the 25 foreign countries with gays in their militaries (1.7 million).” Our nation is thought to be a Christian nation by many of our adversaries and what this new policy demonstrates is something that certainly is not Christian, but will bring even further persecution of Christians trying to exist in these nations. It will bring further hatred of whom they call “The Great Satan” and even further emboldening against our country. One thing that these nations are right about is that this new policy is not of God.

The American Family Association has been designated a hate group by The Southern Poverty Law Center.

Catholic Church Punts On DADT

Washington Cardinal Donald Wuerl says the Roman Catholic church has no position on whether gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the military. On Fox News Sunday, Wuerl was asked if he opposed Congress's repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" -- a repeal that President Barack Obama signed into law last week. He said, "That's a question that has to be worked out politically." But Wuerl, who is archbishop in the nation's capital, reiterated church teaching that sex should be reserved for marriage between a man and a woman. He added that if the church is forced to accept a redefinition of marriage, its ministry becomes limited.
RELATED: When DC legalized same-sex marriage earlier this year, Wuerl's archdiocese ended its adoption program rather than serve gay couples.

Richard Chamberlain's Avice To Gay Actors: Stay In Closet

"There’s still a tremendous amount of homophobia in our culture. It’s regrettable, it’s stupid, it’s heartless, and it’s immoral, but there it is. For an actor to be working is a kind of miracle, because most actors aren’t, so it’s just silly for a working actor to say, 'Oh, I don’t care if anybody knows I’m gay' — especially if you’re a leading man. Personally, I wouldn’t advise a gay leading man–type actor to come out. Despite all the wonderful advances that have been made, it’s still dangerous for an actor to talk about that in our extremely misguided culture. Look at what happened in California with Proposition 8. Please, don’t pretend that we’re suddenly all wonderfully, blissfully accepted." - Richard Chamberlain, speaking to the Advocate.

Emotional Disturbance Claim Possible in Gay Murder

The attorney who represents John Katehis, the accused killer of gay journalist George Weber, says he may offer an extreme emotional disturbance defense during the second trial for the 18-year-old, reports Gay City News

Historic Gay Sex Convictions Expunged

U.K. men with historic convictions for gay sex with a partner aged over 16 will have records of their crimes expunged next year, reports British newspaper The Telegraph. Within the next few days Liberal Democrat equalities minister Lynne Featherstone is expected to announce the proposal for new legislation, which will benefit thousands of men who were prosecuted for gay sex with someone over 16 during decades when the practice was against the law. Currently, the prosecuted men must disclose the information as part of the program of Criminal Records Bureau checks if they apply to work or volunteer for charities and other organizations.

...Consensual sex between two men over 21 was decriminalized in 1967, but it wasn't until 1994 that the homosexual age of consent was reduced to 18. In 2000 it was finally changed to 16, which is the same age of consent for heterosexuals.

Joe Biden: Gay Marriage Is Inevitable

During an appearance on the Today Show, this morning Vice President Joe Biden said that he agreed with the president's "evolving" position on gay marriage and that a "national consensus" on the issue is inevitable.

“I think the country’s evolving,” he said. “And I think you’re going to see, you know, the next effort is probably going to be to deal with so called DOMA [Defence of Marriage Act].” DOMA prohibits federal government from recognising gay marriage, meaning that even if states allow the practice, gay couples still cannot access federal benefits. Mr Biden added that attitudes had changed to openly gay soldiers and that consensus was beginning to turn in favour of gay marriage. He said that gay troops were now “widely accepted” and “the same thing is happening now in regard to the issue of marriage.”
